India's one-day series in New Zealand starts before breakfast in India. The first of five ODIs is at 7:30 AM IST on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, in Auckland. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are back in the 50-over squad. Shubman Gill leads the first three matches. Shreyas Iyer leads the last two.

The squad that takes the field is not the one the BCCI printed on 16 October. Prasidh Krishna is out of the ODIs. Auqib Nabi has been added from the first match. Nitish Kumar Reddy is available only for the opener. New Zealand, meanwhile, have lost Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman for the whole series. Here is the schedule, the watch guide, and the lists as the boards have revised them.

India came into this leg after winning the T20I series 3-2, The Indian Express noted on 2 November. That series is recapped in our T20I explainer. The October squad announcement, now corrected for these changes, is in our ODI and Test squads piece.

The 60-second version

  • First ball: Wednesday, 4 November 2026, 7:30 AM IST, in Auckland. ESPNcricinfo and The Indian Express say the ground is Eden Park.
  • The series: Five ODIs, all listed by the BCCI at 7:30 AM IST, through Sunday, 15 November, in Mount Maunganui.
  • India's captains: Gill for matches 1 to 3, Iyer for matches 4 and 5. Rohit and Kohli are in both squads.
  • India's changes: Prasidh Krishna ruled out of the ODIs on 30 October. Auqib Nabi added to the first three on 31 October. Nitish Kumar Reddy plays the first ODI only.
  • New Zealand's absences: Rachin Ravindra (right shoulder) and Mark Chapman (left hamstring) are out. Tim Seifert and Henry Nicholls come in.
  • Where to watch in India: Sony Sports Network and SonyLIV, The Indian Express reported on 2 November.

The schedule, in IST

The times below are the ones the BCCI printed on 16 October 2026. The board named cities. It did not, in that advisory, name the grounds for matches 2 to 5. ESPNcricinfo (1 November) and The Indian Express (2 November) both place the first ODI at Eden Park, Auckland.

An earlier timings guide on this site, drawn from fixture lists available in October, named Bay Oval, Tauranga for the last two ODIs. The BCCI's own advisory prints those venues as Mount Maunganui. This piece follows the board's city names. For how 7:30 AM IST lines up with a New Zealand afternoon, see the match timings guide.

The Test series is separate. The same BCCI advisory lists the first Test in Wellington at 3:30 AM IST on Thursday, 19 November.

Where to watch

The Indian Express, in its 2 November series guide, said the five ODIs will be televised in India on the Sony Sports Network, with live streaming on the SonyLIV app and website.

That is the place to check on the morning of 4 November if a channel number or a stream delay changes. This piece does not invent a channel number the paper did not print.

India's squad, and what changed

On 16 October the BCCI named Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in both ODI groups, with Gill leading the first three and Iyer the last two. Prasidh Krishna was in the first three subject to fitness clearance. Auqib Nabi was only in the fourth and fifth ODIs. Jasprit Bumrah was not in either ODI squad. He was named in the Test squad.

Two later advisories changed the one-day lists.

30 October. Honorary secretary Devajit Saikia said Prasidh, still recovering from a hamstring injury, was ruled out of the five-match ODI series. He needs more time to build his workload. The board said he will join the India A squad for the third and final four-day game against New Zealand A, subject to a return-to-play assessment, to get match practice before the Tests. The same note limited Nitish Kumar Reddy to the first ODI on 4 November. After that he links up with India A for the third four-day game, again with the Tests in mind.

31 October. The Men's Selection Committee added Auqib Nabi to the first three ODIs. The advisory said he had been picked only for the fourth and fifth, and would now be available from the start of the series. Hindustan Times, reporting that revision, said Nabi had taken six wickets for India A in Lincoln and was then withdrawn from the remaining India A games. It also said his ODI debut was on 30 September against the West Indies in Guwahati, where he conceded 84 runs in 8.5 overs.

The BCCI's 31 October lists, which include that addition and the 30 October cuts, are:

First three ODIs: Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Axar Patel, Naman Dhir, Anshul Kamboj, Gurnoor Brar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Arshdeep Singh, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy (first ODI only), Auqib Nabi.

Fourth and fifth ODIs: Shreyas Iyer (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper, vice-captain), Axar Patel, Naman Dhir, Auqib Nabi, Gurnoor Brar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Arshdeep Singh, Kumar Kushagra (wicketkeeper), Mohammed Siraj, Yash Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav.

Who is in the first three and not the last two: Gill, KL Rahul and Anshul Kamboj, plus Nitish, who leaves after the first match. Who joins for the last two: Tilak Varma, Kumar Kushagra and Yash Thakur. Nabi is in both groups.

No BCCI note read for this piece named a playing XI. Rohit and Kohli are selected. That is not the same as a confirmation that both will bat on Wednesday. The Indian Express published a predicted XI. Predicted XIs are not the team sheet, and this piece does not treat them as one. New Zealand's predicted XI in that same article still included Rachin Ravindra, who had already been ruled out.

New Zealand without Ravindra and Chapman

ESPNcricinfo reported on 1 November 2026 that Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra are out of all five ODIs.

An MRI showed Chapman's left hamstring needed another two weeks of rehabilitation. Ravindra's right shoulder needed more time before he could field at full capacity. Head coach Rob Walter said both were assets and that it was a shame they would miss the series. On Ravindra he said the shoulder had not recovered to a point where he could field comfortably in white-ball cricket, and that New Zealand did not want to take a risk with the Test series later in the month. ESPNcricinfo said Ravindra hurt the shoulder during a promo shoot, and Chapman suffered a hamstring tear at the European T20 Premier League, both in September.

The replacements, as ESPNcricinfo listed them:

  • Tim Seifert, originally only in the last two ODIs, is now in for the whole series.
  • Henry Nicholls comes in for the first three. ESPNcricinfo said he made 119 opening for Canterbury in the Ford Trophy on Saturday, that he has 92 ODI caps, and that he turns 35 this month.
  • Dean Foxcroft, currently with New Zealand A, joins for the last two.
  • Matthew Fisher, originally only for the last two, is in for the full series as an extra bowling option.
  • Matt Henry, who had been ruled out midway through the T20Is, joined the ODI squad on Monday. ESPNcricinfo said his readiness to play would still be assessed.

First three ODIs: Mitchell Santner (captain), Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Matthew Fisher, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham (wicketkeeper), Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Tim Seifert, Nathan Smith, Will Young, Blair Tickner.

Last two ODIs: Mitchell Santner (captain), Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Kristian Clarke, Jacob Duffy, Matthew Fisher, Dean Foxcroft, Lockie Ferguson, Mitchell Hay (wicketkeeper), Nick Kelly, Tim Seifert (wicketkeeper), Blair Tickner, Will Young.

What to watch next

  1. Wednesday's team sheet, not the squad list. The open question is whether Rohit and Kohli both play at Eden Park, and who keeps wicket between KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan. The BCCI had not answered that in the advisories above.
  2. Matt Henry's fitness check, which ESPNcricinfo said was still pending after he rejoined on Monday.
  3. Nitish Kumar Reddy's one game. He is in the squad for 4 November only, then moves to India A before the Tests.
  4. The new ball without Prasidh, and with Auqib Nabi available from the first ODI. Bumrah remains outside the ODI squads named on 16 October and was not added later.
  5. The handoff on 10 November. After the Hamilton ODI, Gill, Rahul and Kamboj leave the one-day group, Iyer takes the captaincy for Mount Maunganui, and the Test series starts in Wellington on 19 November.

The series starts at 7:30 AM IST on 4 November in Auckland, with Rohit and Kohli in the squad, Gill in charge first, and both teams missing bowlers and batters they had expected to pick from. The playing XI is the document still to come.

India's ODI lists and the fixture times are from BCCI media advisories dated 16 October, 30 October and 31 October 2026, issued in the name of honorary secretary Devajit Saikia. New Zealand's injuries, quotes from Rob Walter, and the revised New Zealand squads are from ESPNcricinfo's report of 1 November 2026. The Eden Park location, the 3-2 T20I series scoreline and the Sony Sports Network and SonyLIV broadcast note are from The Indian Express on 2 November 2026, with Eden Park also in the ESPNcricinfo report. Auqib Nabi's debut figures and his India A wickets in Lincoln are from Hindustan Times on 31 October 2026. No playing XI had been published in those sources.
