What is new in One UI 9

Features reported for One UI 9 include:

  • A more customisable Quick Panel, letting you rearrange toggles and controls.
  • A redesigned media player in the notification shade.
  • New Game Booster options.
  • A blue location indicator when apps use your location.
  • Stricter lock-screen security.
  • Warranty and Care information inside settings.
  • Under the hood, the move to Android 17, with more UI customisation.

Feature availability can vary by model and region, and some Galaxy AI features are limited to newer flagships.

How to update to One UI 9

  1. Back up your phone (Samsung Cloud or Google One).
  2. Charge to at least 50% and connect to Wi-Fi.
  3. Open Settings, then Software update, then Download and install.
  4. If nothing shows, try again in a few days. Samsung releases updates in batches.
  5. Want it sooner on a supported model? Join the beta through the Samsung Members app, if the programme is open for your phone.

Should you update straight away?

For flagships, the stable build is generally safe to install. If your phone is your only device for work or banking, waiting a week or two for early bugs to be fixed is a sensible precaution, especially on older models getting the update for the first time.
