Sindhu: control from the first point
The double Olympic medallist came into the final in form. According to ESPN, she had won the Japan Open in July and finished runner-up at the French Open the previous week. The Hylo Open was her second title of the season and, per the BWF, her third final of the year.
Against Kjaersfeldt, whom ESPN described as the eighth seed and world No. 25, Sindhu led from the start and never let the Dane settle. The final lasted 39 minutes. ESPN reported the win was worth 9,200 ranking points, which strengthens her bid to qualify for the season-ending World Tour Finals.
"We've played a lot of times, and it was important for me to focus on every point. I took the lead and I didn't give her a chance," Sindhu said, as quoted by the BWF.
She also thanked her team: "There are days when you're absolutely low, but the team is there to pump you up. It's been an amazing week."
Lakshya: a turnaround in one week
Lakshya's form before Saarbrucken was poor. According to the BWF:
- He had lost in the first round of his last six tournaments.
- His last final was the All England in March, where he finished runner-up.
- His last title was the Australian Open in November 2025.
He came into the final with a 3-4 head-to-head record against Christie, according to ESPN. The world No. 14 controlled most of the match. The BWF said his only wobble came in the first game, when he let a big lead slip and Christie won seven straight points to close the gap. Lakshya held on to take the game 21-17 and was never threatened in the second, which he won 21-10.
"It's been quite some time since I've won a tournament, so it feels really good to play this well," Lakshya said, as quoted by the BWF. "The way I played from round 1 gave me confidence."
The rest of the podium
| Event | Champions | Runners-up |
|---|---|---|
| Men's doubles | Christian Faust Kjaer / Rasmus Kjaer | Ben Lane / Sean Vendy |
| Women's doubles | Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi / Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti | Hsu Yin-Hui / Lin Jhih Yun |
| Mixed doubles | Thom Gicquel / Delphine Delrue | Jesper Toft / Amalie Magelund |
The BWF said the mixed doubles final was the closest of the day, finishing 19-21, 22-20, 21-18. In the men's singles, Anders Antonsen and Toma Junior Popov were the beaten semi-finalists.
Why it matters
- For Sindhu: Three finals and two titles this year, plus a strong run over the last two weeks, put her back among the contenders for the World Tour Finals.
- For Lakshya: Beating a top player in the final after six first-round exits is the kind of result that can reset a season. He said the last two matches, against "top quality opponents", gave him confidence.
- For Indian badminton: Both singles titles at one World Tour event is a rare double, and it comes with the season's final stretch still to play.
What to watch next
- World Tour Finals qualification. Whether Sindhu's ranking points from Saarbrucken are enough to secure a place in the season-ending event.
- Lakshya's next event. Whether he can turn one title into a run of form after a year of early exits.
- The updated BWF rankings, which will show how far both players move after the win.
A week ago, Lakshya's year looked like one to forget, and Sindhu was coming off a losing final in France. One Sunday in Saarbrucken changed both stories, and gave India its first-ever Hylo Open singles double.
