Late on Tuesday night, 3 November 2026, an incident damaged the railway track near 50 GB village on the Anupgarh-Suratgarh line in Sri Ganganagar district, Rajasthan, close to the India-Pakistan border. A passenger train had already gone through. By Wednesday morning, 4 November, the ATS, the CID and the Railways were on the site, and trains on the section had been stopped.

News18, last updated at 7:32 IST, reported an explosion that damaged two concrete pillars supporting the track, damaged sleepers, and left a crater nearly two feet deep. Sri Ganganagar SP Harishankar, in that report, called it a suspected blast and said it was too early to say exactly what it was. He said there is no established link with 7.5 kg of RDX recently recovered in the border region. Some headlines have called this a plot to blow up a train. That is how those outlets framed it. It is not what the SP has confirmed.

The 60-second version

  • Where: Near 50 GB (the 50 GB point) on the Anupgarh-Suratgarh railway line, Sri Ganganagar, near the India-Pakistan border. Ramsinghpur Police Station has the jurisdiction, News18 said.
  • When: A train from Anupgarh toward Suratgarh had passed around 9 pm. News18 put the incident about 45 minutes later. Bhaskar English put it at about 9:45 pm. NDTV India reported the time as about 10:23 pm. The clocks in these reports do not agree.
  • Damage, as described: News18: two cement or concrete pillars, plus sleepers, and a crater nearly two feet deep. Bhaskar English: a pit about two feet wide and two feet deep, with locks that hold the track to the blocks also broken. NDTV India, quoting the railway spokesman, said two sleepers were damaged.
  • Who is there: ATS, CID, a dog squad, other security agencies and the Railways. An FSL team and the Bomb Disposal Squad had been called, the SP told News18. Bhaskar English timed ATS Additional SP Surendra Kumar at the spot at about 2:15 am.
  • What police will not say yet: Harishankar said it is premature to conclude this was an explosion until FSL and the bomb squad examine the scene. He said there is no established link to the recent RDX recovery.
  • Trains: NDTV India named 59711 (Suratgarh-Anupgarh) and 59712 (Anupgarh-Suratgarh) as cancelled on 4 November 2026. News18 said the section was suspended until 9 am. Bhaskar English said until 6 am.

What the SP said on the record

News18 quoted SP Harishankar in two stretches. The first:

"Two cement pillars supporting railway tracks were damaged in a suspected blast near 50 GB village on the Anupgarh-Suratgarh railway line. An FSL team is being called to the spot to examine the evidence. It is too early to ascertain the exact nature of the incident. There is no established link with the 7.5 kg RDX recently recovered in the border region. An investigation is underway."

The second, after he said his team and railway officials had inspected the site:

"Our forensic team and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) are on their way. We will only be able to determine the exact cause once they arrive; it would be premature to conclude whether it was an explosion or something else. We are currently examining the scene to assess the situation further. There is no connection with the seized RDX."

News18 said the incident is under Ramsinghpur Police Station, and that an investigation is underway to establish the cause of the explosion and determine whether the railway track was deliberately targeted. That is News18's description of what the inquiry is for. None of the reports read for this piece named a suspect or an arrest.

Bhaskar English (Mayank Agarwal, Anupgarh, updated 8:19 AM IST on 4 November) quoted the same SP in stronger language: the intensity of the blast, and who was behind the attempt to damage the track, were being investigated, and security agencies had begun "piecing together the entire conspiracy". Bhaskar also quoted him saying a forensic team would collect samples. Read next to the News18 quotes, the SP has both used the language of an attempt and said it is too early to decide whether this was an explosion at all. Until FSL and the bomb squad report, the careful line is the one he gave News18: suspected blast, cause not fixed.

When it happened, according to each report

The reports agree that a passenger train had passed before the damage was found. They do not agree on the clock.

News18: The explosion was about 45 minutes after a train from Anupgarh to Suratgarh passed at approximately 9 pm. The sound was reportedly heard up to 200 metres away. A team of security personnel arrived around 2 am. Train services between Anupgarh and Suratgarh were suspended until 9 am as a precaution. RPF personnel and railway officials found two track sleepers damaged.

Bhaskar English, quoting Ramsinghpur Circle Inspector Ram Pratap: the Suratgarh-bound train left Anupgarh Junction at 8:30 pm on Tuesday, reached the vicinity of 50 GB around 9 pm, and the blast on the track was about 45 minutes after the train passed. Bhaskar put the time at about 9:45 pm. Residents of a dhani about 200 metres away heard it, went to the tracks, and called the police. Bhaskar's timeline after that: Ramsinghpur police around 11:30 pm, SP Harishankar around 12:30 am, IB and CID around 2 am, ATS Additional SP Surendra Kumar at about 2:15 am. Bhaskar said trains were cancelled until 6 am.

NDTV India: The incident is being reported as around 10:23 pm. A gateman heard the sound and informed railway officials, the report said. Civil police and a bomb disposal team were among those who reached the spot. North Western Railway chief public relations officer Amit Sudarshan said two sleepers on the track were found damaged. NDTV India did not, in the copy read for this piece, give a morning hour for services to resume. It did name two cancellations, below.

This piece does not choose between 9:45 pm and 10:23 pm. Both figures are in print. They cannot both be the minute it happened.

What was damaged

News18's account: two concrete pillars supporting the track, a few railway sleepers, and a crater nearly two feet deep under the track. The SP's phrase in that story is "two cement pillars".

Bhaskar English's account: two concrete blocks (it also called them sleepers) under the track were broken, a hole about two feet wide and two feet deep opened between the tracks, and the locks connecting the track to the blocks broke.

NDTV India, citing Amit Sudarshan: two sleepers damaged. Its own write-up also described two cement sleeper-pillars between the tracks as damaged.

The shared core, across the three reports, is physical damage to the support under the rails near 50 GB, found after a train had passed. The precise count of pillars, blocks and sleepers is not identical in every story. The forensic examination is what the SP said would settle the cause.

The RDX seizure, and the line police drew

A separate recovery in the border area is part of the public conversation. It is not, on the SP's words, a link that has been established to this track.

News18 quoted Harishankar: no established link with the 7.5 kg of RDX recently recovered in the border region, and "no connection with the seized RDX".

Bhaskar English reported a seizure in the Rawla Mandi area of Sri Ganganagar, adjoining the Pakistan border: 7.750 kg of explosives (RDX), two Zigana pistols, four magazines, about 867 cartridges, five batteries and two remote controls. The same story said the weapons were dropped from Pakistan using drones on Monday night, and that the pistols bear the words Made in Turkey. It added that a major conspiracy was suspected. The section heading on that report says the explosives were seized in October, while the paragraph says Monday night. Bhaskar does not resolve that. This piece does not either.

The drone-drop claim, the Turkey marking, and the suspicion of a wider conspiracy are Bhaskar English's reporting. They are not a finding the SP attached to Tuesday night's track damage. His statement to News18 is the opposite link: none established.

Which trains were cancelled

NDTV India said that, according to CPRO Amit Sudarshan, these services were cancelled for unavoidable reasons on 04.11.26:

  • 59711, Suratgarh-Anupgarh
  • 59712, Anupgarh-Suratgarh

The list on that page printed each of those two trains twice. The distinct services named are these two. NDTV India also said the two passenger trains that run between Anupgarh and Suratgarh had been cancelled because of the incident.

News18 said services between Anupgarh and Suratgarh were suspended until 9 am as a precaution. Bhaskar English said trains were cancelled until 6 am because of security and the investigation. Those are three different public statements: two named trains on 4 November, a hold until 6 am, and a hold until 9 am. Anyone travelling on the section should take the railway's current running as the later word. This piece was filed around 8:40 AM IST, inside the window those reports were still describing.

What to watch next

  1. The FSL and Bomb Disposal Squad examination. The SP told News18 the cause stays open until they look: an explosion, or something else. That finding is the one that would move this from "suspected blast" to a confirmed cause.
  2. Whether any link to the RDX seizure is actually drawn. Harishankar has said there is none established, including no connection with the seized RDX. A later police statement would have to say so before that recovery and this track are the same case.
  3. When Anupgarh-Suratgarh trains run again. 59711 and 59712 were reported cancelled for 4 November. The 6 am and 9 am resume times in Bhaskar English and News18 do not match each other.
  4. Whether anyone is named. As of these reports, Ramsinghpur police, ATS, CID, IB and the Railways are investigating. No arrest and no named accused appeared in the copy read for this piece.
  5. How headlines age. News18 asked, in a subheading, whether this was a conspiracy to blow up a passenger train. Bhaskar English's headline called it an attempt to blow up a train. NDTV India's headline described a conspiracy to blow up a train. Those lines are the papers' framing while the forensic team is still on the way.

Police have called this a suspected blast near 50 GB on the Anupgarh-Suratgarh line, after a passenger train had passed, and have said the cause is not fixed and that no link is established to the RDX recovered in the border region. The forensic report is the document still to come.

News18 (Prisha Vibhavari, last updated 4 November 2026, 7:32 IST) is the source for the 50 GB point, the two pillars, the sleepers, the crater nearly two feet deep, the train at about 9 pm and the 45-minute gap, the sound heard up to 200 metres, the ATS, CID, dog squad and Railways, the 2 am arrival, the suspension until 9 am, Ramsinghpur Police Station, and both quoted statements from SP Harishankar, including the 7.5 kg RDX line and the caution that it is premature to call it an explosion. Bhaskar English (Mayank Agarwal, Anupgarh, updated 4 November 2026, 8:19 AM IST) is the source for the 9:45 pm timing, Ram Pratap's account of the 8:30 pm departure, the dhani 200 metres away, the police timeline through ATS Additional SP Surendra Kumar at 2:15 am, the two-foot by two-foot pit, the broken locks, the hold until 6 am, the SP's "conspiracy" wording as Bhaskar quoted it, and the Rawla Mandi seizure details (7.750 kg RDX, two Zigana pistols, magazines, cartridges, batteries, remote controls), including the drone-drop claim and the "Made in Turkey" marking. NDTV India's Hindi report is the source for the 10:23 pm timing, CPRO Amit Sudarshan's note that two sleepers were damaged, and the cancellation of trains 59711 and 59712 on 04.11.26. Sabotage is not stated as a finding.
