November 2026 is packed with festivals: Diwali, Govardhan Puja, Bhai Dooj, Chhath and Guru Nanak Jayanti all fall in the same month. If you trade, run a SIP or need to move money, here is exactly when the stock exchanges and banks are closed.

The 60-second version

  • NSE and BSE closed: Tuesday, 10 November (Diwali Balipratipada) and Tuesday, 24 November (Guru Nanak Jayanti).
  • Muhurat trading: Sunday, 8 November 2026, timings to be announced.
  • Trading days: 19 regular sessions in November plus Muhurat.
  • Banks: 2nd and 4th Saturdays are 14 and 28 November. Guru Nanak Jayanti (24 November) is a bank holiday in most states; other festival holidays vary by state.

Muhurat trading 2026

Muhurat trading is a symbolic one-hour session on Diwali evening that marks the start of the new Samvat year. In 2026 it falls on Sunday, 8 November. NSE and BSE announce the exact window in a circular, usually a couple of weeks before Diwali. For what to expect and how the session works, read our guide: Muhurat Trading 2026: Date, Timings and How It Works.

What the holidays mean for your money

  • Settlement shifts by a day. India settles equity trades on T+1. Shares you buy on Monday, 9 November settle on Wednesday, 11 November, because 10 November is a settlement holiday. The same applies to sales: the money reaches your account a day later than usual.
  • Mutual fund NAV. Funds do not publish a NAV for market holidays. Purchase or redemption requests placed on a holiday are processed at the next business day's NAV, subject to the cut-off rules.
  • SIP dates. If your SIP date falls on 10 or 24 November, it is normally processed on the next business day. Check your fund house or platform for the exact rule.
  • F&O expiry. If a weekly or monthly expiry falls on a holiday, the exchange moves it to the previous trading day. Watch for exchange circulars in the weeks of 10 and 24 November.

For banks, the second and fourth Saturdays (14 and 28 November) and Guru Nanak Jayanti (24 November) are the safest dates to assume closures; check the RBI list for everything else in your state.
